Tadasana is the first asana in Shankha Prakshalana asana sequence.

Benefits of Tadasana:

  • Improves the alignment of spinal column.
  • Rejuvenates the spinal cord.
  • Slows down the degenerative changes in the spinal column.
  • Highly beneficial for inter vertebral disc prolapse in the lumbar region.
  • Tones up the calf muscles and the gluteal muscles.
  • Improves physical and mental balance.
  • Stretches the shoulder joint’s ligaments and abdominal muscles.
  • Increases the vital capacity of lungs.
  • Beneficial for flat foot.
  • Improves height if done before 16 years of age.
  • It can be followed or preceded by inverted asanas mainly sirshasana (headstand).
Precautions:

  • To be done against a wall or pillar in case of persons suffering from vertigo or Postural hypotension (low blood pressure).
